EMPOWERED! To Fight Cancer Workshop For Residents Of PPR Sri Pantai

In collaboration with the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia and numerous other like-minded organizations a EMPOWERED! To Fight Cancer Workshop was held on 21 November 2010 for over 350 low-income residents of PPR Sri Pantai, Pantai Dalam and Sentul.

Puan Noormah Bt Dato’ Haji Abdul Rauf, Director, Social Welfare Department, Wilayah Persekutuan officiated the event.

Lectures pertaining to lung cancer, smoking and breast cancer were delivered by experts followed by a sharing of her experience by a breast cancer survivor.

In the afternoon, three interactive workshops ran concurrently. The " Eat Healthy workshop" covered healthy and nutritious foods.

In the "Stay Healthy workshop" physiotherapists guided participants on the appropriate exercises to undertake daily. The participants had their body mass index (BMI) checked.

The "Breast Self-Examination (BSE)" workshop
provided self examination tutorials and clinical breast examinations by doctors.

At the same time, a "Stay Away from Tobacco" workshop was held for 110 children at the Dewan Orang Ramai.
The children learned the dangers and negative effects of smoking.
